NO SECRETS, Your Apps Know Where You Were Last Night.
Dozens of companies use smartphone locations to help advertisers and even hedge funds. They say it’s anonymous, but the data shows how personal it is.
The millions of dots on the map trace highways, side streets, and bike trails — each one following the path of an anonymous cellphone user.
BUT CONCERNING NATIONAL SECURITY, Buying data from ordinary apps to track a particular category of people is extremely easy, especially when it comes to the U.S. military.
LATEST EXAMPLE, a Muslim prayer app with over 98 million downloads is one of the apps connected to a wide-ranging supply chain that sends ordinary people’s personal data to brokers, contractors, and the military.
People Are Deleting This Muslim Prayer App After Learning Data Was Shared With U.S. Military, Muslim Pro stated that it is “untrue” that it sold data DIRECTLY to the military.
It has since terminated its relationship with X-Mode, a company that did sell info to defense contractors.
SO it’s clear now that Muslim pro plays word games in order to preserve users.
Many of the app’s millions of dedicated users have called out the company for its irresponsibility and decided to live without its services altogether. Muslim Pro has since announced it would end its relationships with data partners, including X-Mode, one of the tech companies at the center of Motherboard’s investigation.
FINALLY, The move was later confirmed by the US military, explaining that the data was used to “support Special Operations Forces mission requirements overseas.” But it wasn’t all a straightforward transaction. At its center is a data firm called X-Mode.
ON THE OTHER HAND, and from another perspective Google Analytics provides with minimal instrumentation many pieces of information to help to understand the behavior of users as they interact with any site or application. Standard metrics include the number of users interacting with any application, the number of sessions those users create, and the screens or web pages that they visit.
NOW the question is, could we consider providing users private data to a third party, SOMETIMES is a good job???
